Be named when buyers ask AI, and described accurately.

In shortGEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) is the work of getting your business mentioned, cited and described accurately when people ask standalone AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. It identifies the questions buyers ask, measures how each assistant answers them, and fixes the facts and sources behind every answer.

How an assistant answers

One question, followed to its answer

OpenAI reported 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users at DevDay 2026. Each can ask for a shortlist of businesses like yours. Each step below is a point where a business is named or missed.

Who is a good accountant in Geelong for a sole trader?

  1. Step 1

    It reads the question

The tool works out what the buyer needs: a local accountant, for a sole trader.

  2. Step 2

    It gathers sources

Many assistants search the live web and read the pages they find, along with directories and reviews.

  3. Step 3

    It compares

Clear answers and facts that agree across the web make your business easier to compare.

  4. Step 4

    It names and cites

The answer names a short list and may link to the sources behind it.

Sources and accuracy

What AI reads about your business

Assistants draw facts from many places at once. We make them agree, then earn mentions where it matters for your category.

Sources it reads

  • Your website
  • Google Business Profile
  • A directory listing
  • Reviews
  • A social profile
  • A press mention

We match your name, address, services, prices and hours everywhere they appear, then work on the third-party sources that matter.

Accuracy comes first

Illustrative: what three sources say about opening hours
Your websiteMon to Fri, 8.30 to 5
Business profileMon to Fri, 8.30 to 5
Old directoryMon to Sat, 9 to 3

When sources disagree, the answer can be wrong or miss you. Our accuracy check traces each error to its likely source and fixes your own site first. The free audit includes it.

Tracking

The same questions, every month

One AI answer proves little, because answers vary. We test a fixed set of buyer questions across the major assistants, log whether you are named, linked and correct, and keep screenshots.

Illustrative: 20 tracked questions over six months. A lit square is a question where the business was named. Not a client result.

Measurement

How we measure it

Reported monthly against the baseline from your free audit, so every month starts from the same point.

  1. 01

    Mention rate

How often you are named for the questions we track.

  2. 02

    Citation rate

How often an answer links to your site.

  3. 03

    Prominence

How early and how clearly you appear when you are named.

  4. 04

    Accuracy

Whether what AI says about you is right.

How do you measure visibility in ChatGPT?

We test a fixed set of buyer questions on ChatGPT and the other assistants on a schedule. For each answer we log whether you are mentioned, whether a link points to your site, whether the facts are right and how you compare with competitors. Repeating the same questions over time shows a trend, and screenshots let you check each result yourself.

Is GEO replacing SEO?

No. Many assistants search the live web, so pages that rank and can be read are easier for them to find. GEO adds what SEO does not cover: tracking AI answers, keeping business facts consistent across the web, and earning mentions in the sources assistants draw on. We plan both on one roadmap.

Can you guarantee I will appear in ChatGPT?

No. Answers change with the question, the user and the model version, and we cannot promise a place in them. Be wary of anyone who does. We promise a process: a documented baseline, work shipped every month, and a report you can check against the tests we ran.

What if an assistant says something wrong about my business?

Start with your own website and profiles, because those are the facts you control. We then trace the error to the third-party source behind it and work on that source. Every change appears in the monthly report, with a retest of the question, so you can see whether the answer has changed.
